Bushy Wood is a 17 Acre woodland Activity Centre located in the heart of rural Sussex, in the south-east of England, adjacent to the South Downs National Park. We have a flexible mix of building and campsite accommodation, with a modern toilet block, and a wide range of onsite activities. We are surrounded by a range of tourist amenities, and excellent countryside for hiking, so are a perfect base for expeditions.

B1 Shackleton Lodge

Shackleton Lodge is the larger of our two main accommodation buildings, it can support a maximum group of 24 young people on the floor in the main hall, there are three side-rooms, one contains 4 bunk beds (sleeping 8), one has 3 bunk-beds (sleeping 6) and the other has two bunk-beds (sleeping 4).

B2 Kipling Lodge

Kipling Lodge is the smaller of our two main accommodation buildings, it can support a maximum group of 18 young people on the floor in the main hall, aside from which there are three side-rooms, two contain 2 bunk-beds (sleeping 4 in each bedroom), one contains a single bed (sleeping 1).

B3 Activity Centre

The activity centre has a large open plan main room, with a small kitchen area (with hot water/boiler/sink/fridge/microwave). It can be used for activities, meetings, training, presentations, film nights, dinner parties, indoor camp-fires etc, it is fully equipped with projector/sound system/wifi.

B4 The Lodge

The Lodge is a multi-purpose facility, ideal for meetings, training sessions, and now fully equipped with a widescreen, High-Definition, Dolby Surround cinema! A place for leaders to use during a camp or event, somewhere for formal meetings, functions or presentations, or the perfect venue for a movie night!

(Family Site) Birches 3, is a large grassed site, it has a large shelter where you can set up an entire kitchen, with onsite water tap. It has a large campfire circle.

Low Ropes

New for 2023 our outstanding new 'low ropes' adventure course, with THREE traverse walls is just waiting to be clambered all over!
Safety helmets are provided, along with easy to follow guidance to ensure sessions can be delivered safely.
Minimum age of participants is 6, sessions are booked in 90min slots.

Mini Crossbows

The mini-crossbows are suitable for all ages, a paper target can be kept as a souvenir, no instructor or permit is required, these are low power mini-crossbows.
A leader must supervise the use of the mini-crossbows at all times., there is sufficient space for 3 shooters at once.

Outdoor Kitchen (Pizza Oven/BBQ)

New for 2023 is our outdoor kitchen, a large covered cooking shelter with a firebase and seating/campfire circle adjacent.
The kitchen is equipped with a large wood-fired pizza oven, LPG BBQ, with a large central counter top for group food prep along with a sink with hot/cold water.

Soft Archery

This activity is great fun and instantly accessible, using sucker arrows and either bows or wrist launchers (ideal for little people!)
A self-led activity, we supply 3 targets and bow/launcher sets per group.
Sessions are booked/charged as hour long slots.

This is one of our brand-new touring pitches, serviced with 16A hook-up and fresh water point, routine access to our toilet block is NOT guaranteed, please assume you will use your own facilities. Access is directly off our main drive, fencing for privacy, newly laid premium turf (tread lightly for now!).

Air Rifles

Our Air Rifle Range is a 10-metre facility and meets all the NSRA regulations for this type of activity.
Instructed sessions are 90 minutes long with a maximum group size of 12.
The minimum age for shooting is 8, in compliance with the recommendations within Scout Policy, Organisation & Rules.

Campfire Circle

Climbing - Wall (0-12 People)

Climbing is an individual and team activity, a group of 12 work together to get climbers to the top of the wall, a great confidence builder.
Instructed sessions are 90 mins long for a group size of 12, this is a target number to ensure the activity can be operated effectively.
Minimum age - 6.

Crate Stacking

Crate Stacking is a fun activity that promotes group co-ordination and team work. Teams construct the highest tower of crates possible. It’s a challenge to see who can climb the highest, quickest and balance without falling off. The participants climbing the crates are safely secured overhead via belayed ropes.

Orienteering

Bushy Wood has a single orienteering course spread across the 17 Acre woodland.
Supplied in the orienteering kit are maps, compasses, clipboards, pens/pencils.
There are at least 8 sets of compasses etc available, participants can of course be paired up, or placed in groups.
