Activity to teach Scouts basic Morse Code
Morse Code sheet, Storm lanterns, torches
Split each patrol in half.
Give each group a Morse Code sheet, pen, paper and a phrase that they have to transmit (The Scout Laws are good for this).
Give them time to encode their message and practice, about 10-15 minutes.
Take the Scouts out to a dark field and give each group a storm lantern and something to cover it with. (Perhaps an A3 bit of card).
Each half-patrol then transmits their message to the other whilst they try to decode the message.
Then go back inside and see if any of the messages were sent/received correctly!
Activity could also be done indoors if dark enough or with torches/whistles etc.
