An Introduction in to the types of lantern the scouts might find on camp and how they work

All lanterns from the store

Instructions

1. The first part of this is to lay out all lanterns from the store on a table at the front of the room
2. Have a leader show how they all work
3. Have a leader show how to replace a mantle (even the best store will have one that needs to be fixed)
4. the second part odf the evening is to let the scouts take one lantern at a time back to their patrol area and have a go at lighting them
5. A good demonstration is to turn the lights off to show the difference in how much light is given off by a hurricane lamp against a tilley storm lamp
