Build hot air balloons out of bin bags to demonstrate hot air rising

Bin bags
thing green carden canes
tape
cotton wool
mentholated spirits
light small foil container to hold burner
string

Instructions

IMPORTANT - Talk to cubs about the danger or releasing one of these baloons:

* fire if it comes down on a flammable surface
* injury to animals if they become tangled in it or eat it.
* litter
Their balloons will be tethered so they can be easily retrieved.

LIGHTING BALLOONS SHOULD BE DONE BY A LEADER

halve the sticks and make a cross
attach the metal tray to the center of the cross
attache the 4 ends of the sitcks to the openings of the bin bag so it holds it open
attach some string to the crossed sticks and tether other end to the ground
put cotton wool in the metal dish
add meths
light and see if it floats.
