Description

Trail between fixed bases using points of the compass to navigate, collecting letters at each step and building up a word.

Resources

6 cones or similar
6 Location Cards (Ideally laminated) - Attached
Team Cards (one for each team) - Attached
Pen or pencil (one for each team)
Optional - Magnetic Compass one per team
Answer sheet - Attached

Instructions

Setup
Layout the 6 cones as per the attached diagram aligned to North as shown. (min 5 meters apart)
Attach the corresponding Location card to each base.
Put Beavers/Cubs in teams of 1, 2 or 3 and give each team a Question Sheet and pencil


Instructions
Explain the 8 points of the compass if necessary.
If not using compasses point out which direction is North, South, East and West.
Direct each team to their starting base as indicated on their Question Sheet.
Explain that the team needs to follow the directions indicated on the Question sheet and when they reach the next base note the letter indicated on the question sheet.
Continue until all letters have been entered and a word is formed.
