Description

Day visit to Drusillas Zoo Park including talk from Zoo keeper about Beaver animal

Resources

Usual resources for day out including a packed lunch.

Instructions

Contact Drusillas beforehand to arrange group visit - Beaver Scouts get a special rate. Sometimes they can arrange an "animal experience". Ask for the zoo keeper to meet the Beavers at the Beaver animal enclosure for a talk. Many of the walkways around the zoo are under cover so this helps if the weather is bad. There are a lot of hands on activities to do on the way around the zoo. The children all receive several activity books (a spotter book that they stamp as they spot certain animals, a zoolympics book where they can see how they compare to the animals and an activity sheet). If they all fill these in it does take time and the zoolympics book requires them to have a pen or pencil. There is a very good playground and also an indoor soft play centre. Allow about 2.5 hours for the zoo itself (longer if they are filling in the spotter and zoolympics books), time for lunch and time for the animal experience and/or zoo keeper talk. There is also a ride on a Thomas the Tank Engine train all included in the cost of entrance.
