Compass per Patrol or group
timer (someoe to keep the time)

Instructions

Leaders set up at their bases as follows:

Base 1: show them the basics of setting a map

Base 2: show them 4 figure and 6 figure grid references

Base 3: icons used on OS maps

Base 4: compass - how to take a bearing

Base 5: distance using the scale at the bottom of the map and string
