Instructions
Challenge 1 - Tarpaulin turn over
* Get all the Scouts in a Patrol (or troop night) standing on the tarpaulin.
* The aim is for them to turn the tarpaulin without touching the ground.
* Try the activity with different sizes of tarpaulin to challenge the Scouts to work together.
- Look for effective communication, listening to others ideas and working together between the Scouts.
Challenge 2 - Chair Relay
* Start at 1 end of the room with 1 less chair than Scouts in the patrol.
* Scouts need to travel to the other end of the room and back again by only using the chairs.
* If the Scouts fall off then they start from the beginning again.
- Look for effective communication, listening to others ideas and working together between the Scouts.
Challenge 3 - Patrol Battleships
* Pre-print the battleships paperwork
* Give each Scout patrol 5 minutes to establish where they want to place their own ships as per the instructions.
* Each patrol takes it in turns to attack the opponents (we had 3 patrols and they took a shot at each of the other patrols). We started by giving them 30 seconds to work out what shots they wanted to make on the opponents and as the game went on they started to not need the 30 seconds.
* They needs to record the shots against themselves, plus the shots they make and the other patrols make.
* Points are scored for hitting an opponent (points can be added into the weekly patrol competitions).
* Use of Phonetic alphabet to accurately call out the shots made.
* We put a maximum time of 30 minutes to run this challenge.
- Look for the Scouts working together, Listening to what is being said around the room, use of the phonetic alphabet and working together.
