Resources

Twine, Tin foil, Mixing bowl, Flour, Water, Red acrylic paint, sticky tape, baking tray, access to an oven.

Instructions

Step 1: Making the mould

Take a 8 inch by 12 inch sheet of tin foil. Fold over into a strip 1 inch wide.
Once you have your 1 inch foil strip fold this in half to create a 1/2 inch strip (ensure that this is sharply creased along the edges)
Take the 1/2 inch strip and shape it into a heart shape (Tape open ends together)
Cover baking tray with tin foil and place the completed heart shaped foil stripe onto it.

Step 2: Making the paste (This is based on making 6 hearts)

Place flour (1 cup) into the mixing bowl and gradually stir in water (1 cup) mix well.
Add red acrylic paint (2 tablespoons) into the flour/water glue (give it all a good stir together)

Step 3: Making the hearts

Take a length of twine (3 foot for each heart) and dip it into the paste mix (ensure it is thoroughly coated)
Remove the twine and squeeze off excess glue
Lay the twine into the heart shaped mould ensure the twine is spread out to the edges of the mould (These should be on the foil covered baking tray)

Step 4: Baking the hearts

Place the baking tray in to the oven (200 degrees Celsius for 1 hour)
Take the baked hearts from the oven after 1 hour and leave to cool down.
Remove the hearts from the moulds (Cutting through the taped joint on the foil allows the moulds to be used again or can be recycled)

The Beavers, Cubs, and/or Scouts can take their hearts home as individual items or the can create a heart banner by threading a length of twine through the hearts.
