Description
A craft for Father's Day
Resources
Plain black men's socks (not ribbed) - one pair per Beaver. Fabric pens. Tailor's chalk. Something to put or wrap them in.
Instructions
Beavers decorate a pair of socks to give to their dad for Father's Day. It's a good idea to get them to sketch out their design on paper first. Encourage them to keep it simple and small, not least because socks covered in fabric paint will be uncomfortable to wear. Also, thickly applied paint will take a long time to dry.
A simple "Dad" or "No 1 Dad" is an effective design. It's helpful if an adult writes the word using tailor's chalk so that the Beaver can trace over it.
Make sure you check the instructions on the fabric paint. Some need to be ironed on to set the paint.
This activity needs to be done at the start of a session to allow time for the paint to dry.
It's a nice idea to put the finished socks into a bag or envelope so that Dad doesn't spot them. Envelopes or brown paper bags are ideal as the Beavers can decorate them.
