Description

Make a campfire blanket

Resources

Fleece Blanket – 120cm x 180cm approx.
Scissors
Wool – approx. 1m - contrasting colour to the blanket
Needle (for wool)

Instructions

Introduction
For this activity the Guides will make a poncho style campfire blanket. Once made the Guides can sew on any event badges, event neckers, their Brownie sash, badge swops etc. that they have. A plain coloured blanket usually works best. The Guides can bring this blanket to weekends away, Unit camps or even to a campfire at your meeting.

Instructions
1. Fold the blanket in half, length ways.
2. Make a slit along the fold either side of the centre line – big enough to slip your head through.
3. Make another slit coming down from the centre of the first cut – making a T shape.
4. Oversew the edges of the cuts with the wool – using blanket stitch.
5. Fold back to collar points and stitch down.
6. Decorate the blanket with badges.

Debrief
Encourage the Guides to sew on any Ladybird and Brownie badges that they may have and all event neckers/badges that they receive. Guides will then have very colourful blankets full of memories.
