Identify three different relaxation techniques.
Blanket or sleeping bag for each girl
To practice having a positive mental attitude
This Badge has 6 options of which 6 must be completed
Method 1: Each girl finds a place to lie down on the floor and covers herself with her blanket. Everyone closes their eyes and the leader quietly tells them to feel the floor beneath them and to relax and let the floor hold them up. Instruct the group to think of their toes, to squeeze their toes together. Then to do the same with their feet, legs, thighs, bum, tummy, chest, arms and neck until their whole body is all squeezed up tight. Then one by one relax the neck, arms, chest, tummy, bum, thighs, legs, feet and toes. Tell them to try and remember what it feels like to have relaxed muscles.
Method 2: Tell the girls to stand upright with their feet about hip width apart. Get them to raise their arms over their heads and to imagine climbing a rope, stretching one arm over the other. Then get them to drop their arms down to the floor and let them hang loose. Tell them to remember the difference between the stretched arms and the loose floppy arms.
Method 3: Tell the girls to kneel on the floor, then get them to sit back on their legs, curling their heads down to touch the ground with their hands holding their head. Get them to stay like this for three to four minutes, or for as long as possible. Then get them to uncurl slowly and sit up.
