3 to 4 old wood pallets and broken/chipped pieces of wood, roof tiles, terracotta pipes, bricks etc. sourced for free from local builders merchants.

Ask parents to bring broken flower pots, sticks, pine cones and any of the above that they may be available. Small and large size gardening gloves if needed.

Instructions

Choose location and prepare ground before meeting. Have first pallet in place, with the others and bricks/tiles/wood in piles nearby. Ensure that it is level. Use bricks and stones for this.

On day of activity send text asking for children to wear old clothes and appropriate footwear to meeting.

Children to build layers of sticks, bricks, pipes into first pallet, then add next pallet and repeat.

Discuss afterwards the benefits to insects, bees, wildlife.
