The foods in order from the story – apple, pear, plum, strawberry, orange, chocolate cake, ice cream, pickle, swiss cheese, salami, lollipop, cherry pie, sausage, cupcake, watermelon

Instructions

Pippins act out the story, starting by crouching like a little egg on a leaf, hatching out and crawling like a caterpillar. Pippins eat the fruit from the story and grow into a big fat caterpillar before forming a cocoon and emerging as a beautiful butterfly. You could also have the other food options from the story.
Be aware of food allergies in the unit.
Get the Pippins to close their eyes (or blindfold them) Give each Pippin a piece of fruit to taste. For those reluctant to try new foods, use a staged approach. Smell the fruit first, then touch it to their tongue before tasting it.
