Instructions

Consulting girls is a great way to find out what they want to do – it is their programme and we are a girl led organisation – so we need to be consulting regularly. Add your ideas on how you carry out girl consultation in your unit.

PIPPINS:
One way to do this is to choose three or four activities for each section of an apple badge, type each one up onto a card with the activity and a picture to represent it – to make it easier for non readers. Get the girls into small groups and get each group to choose two activities from their section for the unit to do next term.
Have a grid of 10 spaces on a large piece of paper, include any holidays or other important dates such as Father’s Day, International Month or Pink Shirt Day and let the girls choose which week to run the activity they have chosen.
Use the same process for a Unit or Whanui badge – type up all the activities with a picture and get the girls to vote for the ones they want to do. You may need to talk about democracy, choosing and not everyone getting the activity they want every time.
The Pippins may find this tricky the first time but will soon make the links between the activities they choose and experiencing them in the programme. Only get the pippins to choose a couple of Apple activities from each section so as not to give them decision overload.
