The aim of this problem solving challenge is for your Patrol to read the problem and eventually give an answer to the questions as a direction. For the benefit of the challenge North = 360 They must then recognise the 16 main compass points and note them on Page 1. Leaders intially give page 1 and 2 together. The idea then is to work out the degrees that each of the 16 points is based at; then using these work out the mathematical sum and convert the answer into a driection. Half an hour is required for this task. This is very thought provoking and encourages the Scouts to work on their compass points. There is also page 5 as a longer mathematical equation as an ultimate challenge
