Use these methods to reach three decisions at your meeting (Christmas Theme Secret Ballot)


Resources

• Shoebox or similar box
• A4 Black Paper
• A4 White Card/paper
• Glue
• Scissors
• Ballot papers there are two versions (see overleaf)
• Stamp or hole punch
• Pencils
• Polling Station

Instructions

Aim of Badge: To demonstrate how a group can make a decision

This Badge has two options of which two must be completed.

(Christmas Theme Secret Ballot)

Before the Meeting
 Make a ballot box using a shoe box or a box of a similar size
 Cover it with black
 Print ballot papers (see both options overleaf) and cut out

Another Option: Have the “Fly Ladybirds” make the ballot box at a previous meeting

Instructions
1. Explain to the Ladybirds that they are going to do some colouring and that they will be choosing between (i.e. paints and using markers) to colour some Christmas pictures
2. This is going to be a secret vote and each Ladybird will use a ballot paper to make her choice
3. A Leader shows how to complete the ballot paper. putting an X in the box next to (i.e. the picture of the paint- box or the markers) to show which material she would like to use to colour in a picture
4. Ladybirds come up to a table, say their name
5. Leader, will check that they are on OGM /Roll Book
6. Leader marks the attendance record, Only Ladybirds recorded can vote
7. Leader stamps the ballot paper with a stamp/uses a hole punch and gives it to the Ladybird
8. Each girl goes to the polling booth to make her vote in private/secret
9. Ladybird folds her voting paper and then places her paper into Ballot Box
10. When voting is completed the Leaders brings the Unit together onto the garden, empties the ballot box onto a table
11. The votes are counted in full view of all
12. The total for each is read out by the returning Officer
13. The highest vote is declared the winner

Note to Leaders: Decide whether you want to do the colouring on the same evening of the voting or the following week.
