Act out Diwali's story and create your own Diwali candles!
Diwali is the the hindu Festival of Lights, which celebrates the New Year and it's India's most important holiday. Hindus pray to goddess Lakshmi to bring them good luck in the coming year.
Ramayana story speaks about how good wins over evil.
Create your own Diwali candle with Rangoli patterns.
Light the candles all together to light the way to Rama and Sita.
The more lights you light the more Lakshmi will be tempted to visit your home and bring you wealth and prosperity.
Resources
For the role play: Print and cut our Diwali masks (attached), print out Diwali's short story.
For the Diwali candles: plain CDs, tea lights and glittery stickers.
Instructions
Diwali candles:
1. Ask Beavers to use the back side of the CDs and decorate it with glittery stickers.
2. Stick a tea light in the center of your CD and your candle is ready!
Role play:
1. Read Rama and Sita's story to the Beavers and explain to them you are going to bring the story to life.
2. Hand out the masks and give them short instructions of the role of each one.
3. Read the story again and help the beavers get into their role by moving them around the scene and helping them collaborate. Ask them to create their own bridge with simple A4 sheets and cross the bridge in order to get to the island and free Sita. Ask to use their own candles to light the way for Rama and Sita back to the village. Celebrate all together Rama's victory and Diwali!
