Using domestic food to avoid any allergy issues or concerns

Resources

Sultanas soaked first so they swell up and are wet to the touch
Dates cut into bug sized strips
Frozen sweetcorn, defrosted and again wet to the touch and strange in the mouth
Frozen peas defrosted - strangely sweet blindfolded
Black olives cut up
red kidney beans (cooked from a tin) are very grub like

Instructions

>Discus how people taste food and how important seeing and smelling food is to taste
>Explain what a bushtucker taste trial could be ( insects, bugs, creepy crawlies etc)
>Explain we won't be using those but have the next best thing from general foods, they have to guess what the food is.
> Use blindfolds and another scout / young leader to help them taste the food and guess what it is.
