Scale the Solar System to fit your hall
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Use the supplied spreadsheet to scale the solar system to fit your hall (or outside area). Include Pluto or not as you see fit.
The new spreadsheet "Planet Size and orbits to scale" will allow you to make the planets at an appropriate scale to be spaced correctly in your solar system, pluto not included.
Resources
A computer for the spreadsheet - either Excel or Numbers
A means to measure your space.
Instructions
Measure your space.
Enter the measurement in meters into the green area of the spreadsheet and hit enter.
Read off the measurements in CM on the purple part of the spreadsheet. Measure your hall slightly short to allow for Pluto.
The original scale I found was in inches and this is included but broken up into components so Neptune would be 30 and 1/8th inches.
Theres lots of mnemonics for remembering the order of the planets. The one I use is:
My (MercurY)
Very (Venus)
Easy (Earth)
Method (Mars)
Just (Jupiter)
Speeds (Saturn)
Up (Uranus)
Naming (Neptune)
Planets (Pluto)
