Description
Originally as part of a Burns Night meeting, this can be easily used for other evenings.
This is preparation for a later part of the evening where the addresses will actually be delivered. Scouts have to write addresses that they will deliver.
Resources
Paper and pens for writing.
Possibly sample speeches.
Instructions
Scouts are broken down to half Patrols. Each group is equipped with pen and paper.
Instructions are given to all of the Scouts together:
> They have to write an address/ toast to one of the other Patrols (specify which in advance so that everyone is clear)
> The address/ toast should be thanking the target group for their service/ assistance
> Direct insults are deemed to be in bad taste and should lose points (or similar) during the final scoring
> Witty insults (such as thanking the recipients for their assistance in games by scoring own goals, or making your patrol look good by their standard of dress) are rewarded as long as they are legitimate; while these can be personal in nature (for leadership styles, talking, not turning up on time, etc) leaders need to review in real-time to ensure it isn't too personal and may need to make fast calls to veto things (for instance some people will be fine with jokes about them being a vegetarian, while others may get upset by it)
