To encourage you to notice your natural surroundings, wildlife and habitats
This Badge has 17 options of which 4 must be completed
Instructions
With the facts below, make up cards with one fact written/typed on each card. Shape and colour the cards to be part of a tree with the appropriate fact e.g: write Fact #9 on a card in the shape of roots and this goes at the bottom of the tree. Ask the girls to draw a tree outline and place the cards on the appropriate part of the tree or they may wish to build up a tree using the cards.

Environmental:
1. Woodlands are an important wildlife habitat providing shelter and homes for many animals and birds, wild and domestic (leaf & bark card).
2. Woodlands are landscape features providing a setting for recreation.
3. Woodlands absorb dust, noise, pollution and the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide (leaf card).
4. Woodlands provide shelter for livestock, buildings, land and people (leaf card).
5. Woodlands screen buildings and eyesores.
6. Woodlands release oxygen and contribute to our sense of well-being (leaf card).
7. When growing by water, woodlands can filter populates from entering the water and help in the prevention of flooding (roots & bark card).
8. Woodlands provide pollen (leaf card).
9. Roots help the soil to strengthen and help in the prevention of landslides (roots card).
Economical:
10. Woodlands can provide sustainable livelihoods.
11. Woodlands provide sustainable timber production (bark card).
12. Woodland management and planting provides business opportunities and creates jobs.
13. Woodlands provide income from sporting interests.
14. Woodlands enhance property values.
15. Woodlands provide a source of fuel (roots & bark card).
