Description
Make a bird feeder and know the correct food to put in it. Keep a record of the birds that visit your feeder every day for at least 10 days. (Ingredients for Homemade Bird Feed)
Resources
Old cups and saucers (good way to utilise your local charity shop and support a local charity), old shoes etc.
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Bird seed ingredients (below) OR pre-packed bird seed
Ingredients for homemade bird seed:
Sunflower seeds (hulls still on),
raw peanuts,
dark raisins,
dried blueberries,
apples or other dried fruits chopped,
and a small carton of mealworms (can be purchased in pet shops)
Spread one or two scoops of the seed mixture, sprinkled with fresh mealworms, into or onto your bird feeder.

Method: In a rodent-proof container, mix the striped sunflower seeds, peanuts and fruit. Store in a cool area such as the garage and store the mealworms in the fridge according to the package instructions.
Why feed the birds?
• Wild birds help gardeners by eating pests like slugs and snails.
• Birds need a helping hand during the winter when bugs and berries may be scarce.
