Resources

 Rocket Template per Ladybird (see overleaf
 Colouring Supplies
 1 narrow and one wider straw per Ladybird
 Sellotape
 Scissors

Instructions

Aim of Badge To learn more about flying and aviation

This Badge has 3 options of which 3 must be completed

Introduction
• Talk to the Ladybirds about rockets
• Have they ever seen a rocket?
• Have they ever made a rocket?
• Have they ever made anything that flies?

Instructions
1. Give each Ladybird a rocket template to colour.
2. Sellotape one end of the wider straw totally shut
3. Cut the straw to fit the length of the rocket and tape onto the back of the rocket.
4. Place the narrow straw into the end of the straw on the back of the rocket.
5. The Ladybird blows into the straw and the rocket will fly.


Additional Options
 How does the angle you launch your rocket at affect the distance it travels? Try out different angles
 Let the Ladybirds design their own rockets.
 Bend the side fins of the rocket and see how the flight is affected.
 Add paper clips to the rocket and see what happens.
