Instructions

Remember your cultural values, say a karakia as you harvest the harakeke to give thanks and to ask that no harm comes to the plant, the harvester, and those who work with the fibres. Remember the rules about when and how to harvest.

Harvest the Flax Seed Stalk and Leaves
Cut Into Lengths. Starting from the thicker end mark out two 400mm lengths, one length 180mm long (for the sails), and 2 lengths 160mm long.
Cut out two holes from the side of each 400mm lengths for the cross beams. I cut mine 100 millimeters from each end of the stick.
Slide the two 160mm lengths (cross beams) of flax stalk into the cut out holes.
Cut out some seats on the sides. Smooth and shape the cuts and prow
Make the sails using slivers of the 180mm stem and flax leaves
Install the sails on the boat. Pierce both cross sections on the boat with the knife, and then insert the flax stalk mast
