Get to Know You Game Using Compass Points
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
An active game that combines a getting-to-know you activity with a chance to learn about the (4 or 8) points of a compass.
Resources
-Relatively large area in which to play.
-Set of 4 cards to mark each of the 4 cardinal directions.
-A set of statements that pertain to several Cubs each (eg., Has a sister; Is eight years old; Likes to play basketball; etc.)
Instructions
Label the North, South, East and West sides of the room (or outdoor space) so that the Cubs can see them. Have a leader (or multiple leaders taking turns) read a series of instructions for the Cubs to follow. Each of these instructions will combine physical activity, following directions, getting-to-know-you, and familiarity with the 4 compass points.
Examples are: Take 5 steps East if you are eight years old; Take 7 hops North if you have a cat; Take 10 skips West if you like to play basketball; Run towards the South if you were a Beaver.
It's also possible to incorporate the 8 points of the compass- For example, add in instructions like "Take 12 paces SW if you play a musical instrument."
