Description
Make a worm farm out of a soft drink bottle.
Resources
1.5L bottle
Newspaper
Scissors
Tape
Potting Mix
Grass seed
Bucket for water
Watering can / Waterbottle
Worms (Tiger worms)
Instructions
Cut the top off the bottle, just where it gets wider. Set aside the top part.
Wrap newspaper around bottle to keep the light out. Name bottle. Set aside.
Shred the newspaper (enough for a couple of adult handfuls) (Tip: Newspaper has a grain, rip with the grain)
Soak the paper, wring out and place in bottle (paper should be damp not dripping). Set aside.
Worms– Dry hands burn them, they have very sensitive skin, like lemon juice in a cut. Everyone to only handle worms with damp hands –check.
5 or so worms into bottle. They love eating paper. Set aside.
Drill or punch holes into cap.
Potting mix into upturned top. Sprinkle grass seed. Bit more potting mix.
Water. The idea is to keep the potting mix damp and therefore the worms won’t drown but their environment will stay moist.
