Instructions
The Grand Howl gathers the Cubs together and helps them focus. By talking about ‘doing your best’, it helps everyone remember their Promise. Before the Grand Howl takes place, the leader-in-charge should choose a Sixer and let them know they will be leading the call.
The leader shouts "Pack! Pack! Pack!" or "Pack! At ease!" - this makes sure everyone gathers in their sixes, at ease with their feet shoulder-width apart and hands held behind their backs. Everyone is now prepared to stand at alert.
The leader shouts "Pack! Pack alert!" - and everyone stands with their feet together and their hands by their sides.
The leader raises their arms and lowers them slowly. As they do so, all Cubs squat down low, with their hands between their feet. At this point, the cubs all call out "Akela! We will do our best!" The chosen Sixer then stands up and calls "Cubs! Do your best!" All Cubs then reply "We will do our best!"
If the pack is taking part in a flag break, the chosen Sixer should then come forward to the flag before gently pulling the cord to unfurl the flag. As the flag is unfurled, the chosen Sixer takes a step back and leads everyone in saluting the flag, before returning to their Six.
Once any start-of-meeting business has been concluded, the leader will then call "Pack! Fall out!" and begin the meeting's activities.
