Description

Contact the local Royal British legion and offer to assemble the poppy boxes for them.
Ask for a representative from the RBL to come and talk to the children about the history of the poppy and the work of the RBL.
Learn about local services in the community supported by the British Legion

Resources will either be delivered by teh RBL or can be collected from them.

Poppies, pins, badges, crosses, wrist bands, lanyards etc.

Instructions

Talk to the children about the history of the poppy - from flanders field to modern day services for war veterans and their families in the UK.
Show the children how to make a poppy box from flat pack and then what to fill it with.
Talk to the children about when they have seen a poppy seller and what they thought - understood - believed.
Talk about Rememberance service and your local communities services.
This is a nice activity to invite parents/guardians to and help to build the boxes.
Minor risk of becoming a production line and not learning the meaning of the poppy
