Instructions

Give the girls a brief overview of Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a celebration in the United States of America on the fourth Thursday in November every year.
The first Thanksgiving meal in 1621 was a harvest festival where they gave thanks for all the food they had. People called pilgrims had arrived in New in America. When they had their first good harvest they celebrated and shared their food with the Native Americans who had helped them. Thanksgiving didn't happen every year until more than 200 years later.

In 1863, Abraham Lincoln who was the President then, made it an official holiday.

Thanksgiving is a time to - give thanks, spend time with friends and family, have a big roast dinner with turkey, stuffing, potaotes, pumpkin pie and yams (a vegetable like sweet potatoes)

People now give thanks for a safe journey to America, their family and friends and food. Lots of peoplle see it as the start of the Christmas season and many Americans see Thanksgiving as even more important than Christmas dinner.
