Instructions
Split the Colony into 3 groups. Run the 3 Activities in parallel, each session should last 15-20 minutes and the Beavers should cycle through all 3. I have added a fourth activity that you may want to include if you have large groups and need more activities.
Activity 1: Paper Airplanes
Show the Beavers how to make paper planes.
Get them to choose their favourite from the various designs and encourage them to make it, give it a name, and decorate/colour it in.
Ask them to experiment with different designs, seeing which ones fly furthest/longest/glide best.
Activity 2: Aircraft Top Trumps
Spread out the 'Top Trump' factsheets. Ask each Beaver to choose their favourite, and then to read out the facts to the others.
Ask them collectively to try and guess which is the fastest/oldest/rarest/most expensive/etc.
Ask them to talk about what it's like to fly in one of the commercial airliners. Then ask them to talk about how they think flying in something like the Space Shuttle or the Wright Flyer might be different and what it would be like.
Activity 3: Phonetic Alphabet
Explain the phonetic alphabet to the Beavers - what it is, and what it's used for (radio comms).
Give them each a Phonetic Alphabet Factsheet and get them to write out their name, and then read it out to the others.
Read out a message to them in phonetics (something relatively simple like 'Beavers are the best') and ask them to 'decode' it.
Activity 4: Word search
Complete the attached word search to find air activities related words
