Description
Looking at changing air pressure
Resources
plastic bottle
bowl
cold water
ice
balloon
Instructions
Fill a bowl with cold water and add some ice.
Half fill a plastic bottle with hot water. (recently boiled)
Count to 10, then stretch a balloon over the top.
Place the bottle in the icy water.
Wait for a few minutes and see what happens.
(As the bottle cools, the air pressure inside it drops and the balloon is sucked in. The air outside the bottle is at a higher pressure and pushes into the bottle making the balloon start to inflate inside it.)
