Description
Activity for Beavers and Cubs from UKPW 2019
Encouraging the Cubs to think about their local area, and to develop a sense of being able to do something. Split this into a couple of different sections, so that we emphasise the need for Cubs to listen to each other and to share ideas.
Resources
Large sheets of paper
Coloured pens
Whiteboard to gather ideas at the end.
Scrap paper for helping adults.
Instructions
Explain that we are going to be a little bit like parliament, we are going to be in groups and each person will need to choose a person to represent them. Ask for suggestions of what would make a good person for this.
Cubs split into small groups, select their representative.
1 What makes somewhere a good place to live?
2 What would make where we live better?
3 What can we do?
After each section, the representative will feed back and discuss what the group has been saying. Only the representative is allowed to speak at this time. Set up room with chairs for the representatives with their constituencies standing behind. Use the squeazy Big Ben to control who is speaking.
Finish with a plan - we would like to do ... because ...
Write out a letter to MP of what we decided during Parliament week, for Cubs to sign next week.
