Parliament Week Debate Ideas

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

A selection of ideas to help leaders come up with things the young people can debate or share their opinions on.

All the ideas can be used as either :
1. A debating subject or
2. A way of communicating opinions by agreeing/disagreeing with the statement (Agree, strongly agree, disagree, strongly disagree) and this can be done as a four corners running game

Timing can be as long or as short as you like.

You may need to re-phrase the debating subject to give an opinion or form a question depending on what you need.

Resources

None.

Instructions

Print off the attached PDF and pick the subjects you like the best :)

You can run a debate in several ways:
1. pair the children up (or small groups) and get them to argue with each other - move them round to new people after each debate (2 or 3 minutes max per subject for this one)
2. set the room up with chairs opposing each other like in the Commons and have a Speaker (order, order) chair the debate - make sure everyone expresses an opinion (you never know where the subject will go!)
