Instructions
1. Programme Prep:
a. What is Scouting to you? What do you get out of it?
This is asked to prompt some ideas about how the article should be written. Suggestions: Positive / Fun / Adventure / Friends / Optimistic / Skills for Life / Inclusive / Challenging / Active / Confident
b. What is your favourite thing you’ve done in Scouting?
To prompt a few ideas that could be the subject of their article: Suggestions: Camping / Kayaking / Climbing / Skiing / Fire Lighting / Pioneering
c. What makes a good article?
To give them some guides as to what to write (expands on A). Suggestions: Quotes / Pictures / 400 – 1000 words (apprx 3 mins to read) / easy to read / Engaging / Relatable
2. Task:
In small groups (3-4), produce an article for the group’s website. You will then ‘sell’ this article to the leaders who will decide which article wins. Leaders to ask one or two questions per pitch.
Suggested Questions:
Why did you pick this topic?
Who is the article targeted at?
How did <SUBJECT OF ARTICLE> go? Was it a success?
How did you feel during <SUBJECT OF ARTICLE>?
How will the experience help you in the future?
Rules:
a. Must be a positive story.
b. Everyone in the group must be involved
c. Approx 25 minutes to produce. Max 5 mins per group to present. Questions will be asked at the end of your pitch.
3. Distribute one or more articles to website manager / news outlets
