Description

Use either of the attached pdfs - one has one set of knots per page, the other has all one knot on one page.
Best done over several meetings.

Resources

1/2 3B1 notebook per girl (this size makes it fit in a pocket easily, but a full notebook could be used

Pages from attached pdfs as required

String or thin 2mm cord
Toothpick or similar for clove hitch page
Sellotape
gluestick

Instructions

As you teach each knot/lashing the girls receive the appropriate page to glue into their person knotting book.

Stick the paper on the right had site of a double page.
On the left hand side the girls do the knot using the string (which is harder to do than when using knotting cord which is usually 3-4mm) and tape to the left had side.
With the reef knot, I also get them to make a granny (or grief) knot to stick in to remind them of the difference

As you progress with the book, some girls will learn faster than others - a great practice for them is to help teach other girls and they often have a different way of showing/explaining.
