Leader Demonstration – Inverted balloon in a bottle

Resources

• a glass bottle
• a balloon
• a pot of water
• oven gloves
• heat-resistant surface

Instructions

Put a small amount of water into the glass bottle.
Place the bottle into the pot of water.
Boil the water in the pot to ensure the bottle is good and hot.
Take the bottle from the pot and place on the heat-resistant surface.
Place the balloon over the mouth of the bottle and watch how it gets sucked into the bottle and increases in size.
This would be an ideal activity to open a Ladybird meeting with as the Ladybirds can return to it and watch how it has grown.
