Description
The Medicine Relay Game
Resources
a set of empty and clean medicine containers such as plastic bottles, packets, boxes enough for each group of Ladybirds
a set of pictures consisting of tablets, capsules, cream/gel and liquid medicine, enough pictures for each group of Ladybirds
(Make sure the pictures match the containers)
Instructions
Discuss with the Ladybirds what medicines are using one set of pictures.
To play the relay game:
• Divide the Ladybirds into groups of three or four for each relay team with each team standing at one end of the meeting room.
• Place a set of medicine containers at the other end of the meeting room, opposite each team.
• Explain that when the Leader calls out a type of medicine, the first Ladybird in the group should run down to the set of containers opposite them and collect the container that might be suitable to store that particular medicine, before running back to join the end of the group. For example, when the Leader calls out ‘tablets’, the Ladybird should run down and bring back the plastic bottle.
• Continue until all the containers are collected.
• Next, give each group a set of pictures to match up to the containers.
• Allow the Ladybirds to try and open the lids on the bottles and explain about keeping them closed. Also, take the time to read some of the labels on the containers and explain to the Ladybirds about when medicine should be taken.
• Discuss how some of these medicines are kept and how they should be stored in a press or cabinet that’s up high on the wall out of the reach of children.
Alternative game: Just use the pictures for the relay and discuss what the Ladybirds see in the pictures.
