Description

Use an experiment to teach Beavers the importance of using soap to wash their hands properly.


Resources

Pepper
Water
Bowl / bucket
Soap
Paper towels
Handtowels

Instructions

Fill the bowl with water
Sprinkle the pepper on the water
Ask young people what will happen when they dip their finger into the peppered water and record this
Get them to dip their fingers into the water and record what happens - the pepper should stick to their fingers
Now ask them what will happen if they dip their finger in soap first and record it
Get them to cover their finger in soap (liquid or other soapy later) and dip it in the peppered water and record what happens - it should disperse the pepper

Explain that soap helps to lift dirt from our hands and ensure they are clean.
