Opening padlocks using lock picks is surprisingly easy, particularly when you start with transparent training padlocks!

Resources

Two padlock picking training sets, each containing:
- A selection of lock picking tools
- A transparent padlock
(Easily bought online)

An assortment of conventional padlocks

Instructions

As long as your unit is not too large, it is best to gather everyone around a single table.

Explain how padlocks work, then demonstrate opening the training padlock with lock picking tools. If you need to practice first, there are lots of examples online.

Once they can open the transparent padlock, have them try with conventional padlocks.

This makes for a surprisingly social activity. Our unit happily spent an hour sitting chatting while attempting to open one padlock after another. Many of them were really good by the end.
