Eco Bricks

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Have a go at making an eco brick! Fill a bottle with waste plastic instead of sending it to landfill. You can then use this to create objects such as garden planters, stools and bins.

Resources

Empty plastic bottle
Waste dry, clean plastic
Wooden spoon or equivalent

Instructions

1. Ensure you have a clean and dry bottle (milk bottles will be hard to stuff and sports caps mean you can't seal the bottle so avoid these) and a plentiful supply of waste, clean, dry, non-recyclable plastic.
2. Cut the plastic into pieces a few centimetres square
3. Stuff the plastic into the bottle. Use a wooden spoon handle or other stick to press the plastic down
4. Fill the bottle to the top, packing it as tight as you can. A good ecobrick will weigh around 175g per 500ml. If your bottle is lighter than this, don't worry but use it for things where strength is less important and try to get the next bottle more packed.
5. When you have enough bricks use it to create something useful such as a stool, planter or bin.
