Description

A version of the popular Netflix show “Nailed It”. Scouts are shown the picture of the campfire cupcakes and then had a set amount time to recreate it.

When they are done, spotlight each one so they could say “nailed it” when they showed the cupcake to the camera (they loved this part).

Note: This is not a baking challenge as their is not enough time. They needed to do that ahead of time. This was a decorating challenge only.

Suitable for virtual Scouting

Resources

For this challenge, please come to the meeting with the following items:
- One cupcake (with no icing) - you can either bake from a mix or buy pre-made and take the icing off.
- mini marshmallows
- white frosting/buttercream
- yellow/orange food colour (or whatever colour you would like to make your fire)
- mini pretzel rods, mini breadsticks or twiglets
- toothpick
- piping bag (or ziplock bag with the corner cut off) - the recipe calls for a star tip, but again not required.
- dirt topping (something you can use s the ground topping on the cupcake) - the recipe calls for crushed graham crackers mixed with coco powder, but you can use any crushed topping you like, e.g. crushed animal crackers, teddy grahams, oreos etc.)
- mixing bows, spoons and butter knife

Beforehand
Scouts to have the cupcakes pre-made and assemble the ingredients and equipment needed to create it.

Challenge
For them to recreate a campfire cup cake as per the photo within the time frame.

Mini demo
Before the challenge do them a demo showing them the order of the steps and how to mix colours etc.

Leave a photo of what they are trying to create on the screen.

Rules
- Re-create the cupcake!
- You have 30 minutes
- When you are done and happy with your creation, turn off your camera and microphone do a quiet activity whilst you wait.
- At the 30 minute mark, you must stop decorating and come back to the camera.
- We reserve the right to reduce or extend the time frame (depending on how many Scouts are finished).
- We will give you a 30 second warning. You can turn your cameras back on at this point.
- When asked, you must show off your cake to the camera

Timed challenge
As indicated in the rules. They have a time (30 minutes) to create a campfire cupcake. Reviewing how many cameras are switched off will help determine when to actually finish the activity.

Post decorating
The last part is for each Scout in turn to show their cupcake (the spotlight feature is useful here) and for people to comment as to whether they have "nailed it" or not.
