Slightly modified version of the below, collecting items on the wish list for the local community centre food, clothing and hygiene bank:

Leader’s pre-planning: find out the name, location and contact details of a care home local to you. Contact them and ask if they would mind your Scouts/Explorers contacting their residents and sending a care package. They could provide you with a list of first names and a little detail about their residents for you to give each Scout/Explorer an individual to write to.

Create a ‘care package’ for one of the residents there. You can include items like a sealed packet of biscuits, boiled sweets, chocolate, toiletries, hot chocolate sachets, jams, quiz books, gloves, etc. Use a box no bigger than a shoe box to put the items in, but do not include anything with a short shelf life. You may also like to decorate the box with wrapping paper or pictures as this is going to be a gift.

Write a letter to one of the residents to include in the care pack.
