Idea Found on 1st Virtual Scout Group page in Facebook. Thanks to Dave Wood for this brilliant idea.

Parents are given instructions the week before. They need to hide ten items around the house in different specified locations. The items could be anything from bottle tops, sweets or pieces of pasta. I went with pieces of pasta as hopefully everyone should have some around the house. Slight tweak for clue number 5. Originally it stated step of back door. Some of our Beavers live in flats/apartments, so I changed this to step of back door/balcony.

Instructions

Send the Parents Instruction Sheet to parents/carers the week before you plan to run the game. It would probably be a good idea to remind them on the morning of the meeting as well.

Instructions for Parents:
In our next meeting, we will be attempting to run a Home Treasure Hunt for the Beavers. We will need your help to set this up at home before the meeting.

Without your Beaver knowing, please can you hide an individual piece of pasta in each of the following places in your home:

1. In the fridge
2. Under their pillow
3. By the front door
4. In one of their school shoes
5. By the back door/balcony door
6. In their school bag
7. On top of the main TV in the house.
8. In your snack/treat store
9. Under the chair that they are sitting on
10. On a toilet roll in the toilet closest to them.

During the meeting, we will read out a cryptic puzzle which will hopefully lead them to the hiding place and enable them to retrieve the piece of pasta and show it to us.

Instructions for Leaders:
Cryptic Clues to read out to the Beavers, who then run off to find the past that has been hidden by the parents:

Clue 1
This piece of pasta is in a place that is not made of silk
It’s metal and may hold some milk.
Answer:
In the fridge

Clue 2:
This piece of pasta shares a place close to your ted
It’s under where you’d lay your head
Answer:
Under their pillow

Clue 3:
Coming home at the end of the day
you’ll open this and shout ‘horaay!
Answer:
By the front door

Clue 4:
Your feet love these when you’re at school
But unlike trainers, they aren’t so cool
Answer:
In one of their school shoes

Clue 5:
Not the front, but go outside
it’s on the step on the other side
Answer:
On the back doorstep/balcony

Clue 6:
It’s in the place you have to look
each day at school for all your books
Answer:
In their school bag

Clue 7:
“What’s on TV?” you may say
Perhaps a piece of pasta is there today?
Answer:
On top of the main TV in the house

Clue 8:
For chocs or crisps and other treats,
A piece of pasta is waiting for you to meet.
Answer:
In your snack/treat store

Clue 9:
You needn’t go far to find this one,
It’s very close under your bum.
Answer:
Under the chair they are sitting on

Clue 10:
In the place you sit and think
It’s next to the bowl but not the sink.
Answer:
On a toilet roll in toilet closest to them.
