Instructions
Young people are instructed to bring in recycling materials from home with the aim of constructing something interesting out them. Depending on ability and the challenge you may want to let the YP know in advance what the challenge is so that they can plan their construction. For simple challenges it is more fun for them to think on their feet.
They are set a challenge and 10-15 minutes to build their item. Where restrictions allow this may be done in pairs.
Example challenges:
Build the tallest freestanding tower
Safely protect an egg from a fall from a stepladder
Make a harness to safely transport an egg down a zip wire (leader to set up zip wire, karabiner optional)
Build the best thing! (imaginations to run wild)
Make a boat that will allow a bag of flour to float for at least 1 minute.
Please add more in the comments boxes, all ideas welcome!
