Description

Scouts prove their Clove Hitch tying skills - the vertical poles make a sudden perspective difference and catch a lot of them out!

Resources

Vertical pole per patrol + 1 'spare' pole
Piece of rope/string per patrol

Instructions

Place a vertical pole per Patrol a reasonable 'running distance' from your lined up patrols
First in each Patrol line takes the rope to the pole, ties a clove hitch, approved by Leader and runs back with rope
Next in line repeats until entire Patrol have demonstrated they can tie their clove hitch

Note: if anyone has significant trouble, take them to one side on a 'spare pole' with a dedicated Leader to work on their clove hitch and shout 'next' to their Patrol, this keeps the 'competition' going.
