Description

Build mini-rafts to set afloat on wildlife pond

Resources

Sissal twine
Sticks
Card or paper (for sail)

Instructions

Using shear lash join several sticks together to form platform for raft (remember a hitch starts and ends a lash)
Using square lashes add a stick at each end at right angles to the platform sticks (this will give rigidity to the platform)
Wedge or lash longer stick upright in centre of platform as a mast
Using card/paper make a square sail, Viking fashion, on the mast (pierce hole along bottom and top edge so sail has convex profile to the front (bow) of the raft
Tie a long piece of twine to rear of the raft so it can be retrieved after it's maiden voyage!
