Leopard's Simple Bug Hotel
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
This easy bug hotel is probably as simple and as easy as it gets.
It's perfect to make during an online or in-person meeting.
Made using recycling and natural items from the garden or gathered on a nature walk you will be able to improvise and up-cycle any number of things to make something amazing for the bugs in the garden!
Resources
A large (2ltr) cola/drink plastic bottle
Scissors
Heavy string or garden twine (or similar)
Natural items such as: dry sticks, pine cones, dry leaves, dead wood, bark, bits of garden cane, broken ceramic pots, straw, paper drinking straws, ... anything else you can find. Think natural, hidey-holes, nooks and crannies and something that should last.
Instructions
Cut the bottle:
Using scissors (BE CAREFUL) remove the curved top and bottom of the bottle.
Cut the main body into two roughly equal length cylinders.
Attach the string:
Cut a generous length of twine / string and loop it through one of the cylinders.
Tie the string together. Double up the string if it's not particularly strong.
Fill the body of the hotel:
Using the natural items you have collected stuff the cylinder until it is nice and firm, so it doesn’t get blown about!
Open for business!:
Hang your bug hotel in a suitably sheltered spot in your garden and leave it for the first guests to arrive.
MIX IT UP...
Rather than a soft drink bottle, why not re-cycle a 4 or 6 pint milk bottle by cutting a hole in one side and hanging from the top?
