Provide a list of 6 figure OS Grid References each with a question to answer. Scouts plot on OS map (Bing Maps). Use Google Street View or destination website or other resources to find the answer. Transfer to Google Maps visually or by copy pasting coordinates if required.
See attached example spread sheet which provides formulas to calculate Google Maps links and filtered views to disseminate questions to teams, clues to facilitators.
Some questions can be completed interactively to start with.
Can be played on Zoom. Presenter annotation is useful for drawing on maps.
Optional initial discussion:
Latitude and longitude https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_coordinate_system and how this relates to
OS National Grid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordnance_Survey_National_Grid
Bing maps and Google Maps both have right click option to copy the lat/long decimal coordinates which can be pasted in to search box on either platform. Demonstrate this as an easy way to transition between the maps.
Attached example is for the Enfield area. No local knowledge is required to use this, however it would be easy to adapt this to your local area. Just edit the data sheet, other sheets are automatically populated by from this.
Providing you have sufficient adult supervision "two per room" it is possible to go into breakout rooms to work in smaller groups, then present some of the methods and answers to the full group afterwards.
