Description

Game to help new Guides recognise and understand the meaning of the flag of the Irish Girl Guides.
In turn, Guides roll a die to determine which needed supply they get to make an IGG Flag.

Rules
1 Dice
Demonstration copy of the flag - Travel folder

Each Guide will need to be able to receive:
Flag background: Green paper or card - one quarter of an A4 sheet
Scissors
Glue
Uncoloured IGG Logo for the centre of the flag - roughly cut into individual trefoils and friendship knot to extend the game.
Uncoloured wording from the flag - roughly cut into separate words
Yellow, blue and green colouring pencils/markers

Instructions

Roll the dice to determine who starts.
In turn each Guide rolls the dice and gains something they need to make the flag according to the number rolled.
But they must each first roll a 6 to get the background before earning any other item.
6 = The background of the flag is green to represent Ireland
5 = Scissors
4 = Glue
3 = The Irish Girl Guides’ logo is a yellow trefoil representing the three parts of the Promise (gain a piece of the Logo - a Trefoil leaf or the Trinity knot)
There is a blue celtic knot in the centre of the trefoil
The celtic knot symbolises continuous friendship
2 = The title of the organisation is written on the flag underneath the logo (gain one word)
1 = Gain one colour - blue to colour the celtic Trinity knot of continuous friendship
- yellow to colour a part of the Promise - the leaves of the Trefoil
- green for Ireland to colour in any white background around the wording and the Logo.
If you are short on time, skip the requirement to roll a 6 to start and allow the Guides to share or do good turns by giving supplies to someone else on their roll.

This activity is included in the Pathfinder Trifold Display Poster but can be used as a stand-alone activity.
Guides glue their completed flag flat onto the poster or use a straw or bamboo skewer to create a flagpole.
